Sailing - I sail on. Even if you are missing

Some songs don't just accompany us to places - they accompany us throughout our lives.

“Sailing” by Rod Stewart is such a song for me.

It's as old as I am.

Rod Stewart shares my birthday.

Perhaps just a coincidence - a silent sign.

Because this song has carried me - through countries, through years, through pain.

Especially through the loss of my youngest son.

Leon

A song that is actually about God, but for me it speaks of love that remains.

Of a “further” that has become silent - but never empty.

I remember my trip to Thailand.

A day with elephants - full of dignity, closeness and silence.

On the way back, we all sat in the car in silence, somehow changed.

And then our guide played this song:

Sailing

It hit me right in the heart.

As if the song had known that I needed it right there.

Not loud. Not explained. Just there.

Now, a year later, I'm sitting there again after another trip - this time to Vietnam.

Just like in Thailand.

Like back then.

This “I am connected”.

With me. With the world. With him.

With what was and what remains.

Vietnam. A country full of contrasts and warmth.

A place where togetherness lives quietly but powerfully.

Where no one pushes their way in and consideration is part of everyday life.

Where helpfulness seems self-evident and even the chaos of the streets flows to the rhythm of mutual respect.

“Sailing” accompanies me even now - quietly in my thoughts, in my heart, on all my journeys.

It is more than just a song. It is memory, comfort, connection. To moments that never fade.

And to an inner journey that goes on and on.

But something happened today that reminded me again of the power of this song.

YouTube's algorithm played it, unasked, just like that.

And it kept stopping just before the end.

Again and again.

I tried several times, but it stayed the same: The song played until a certain point and then stopped.

Maybe it was just a coincidence. Or maybe life just wanted to give me some more time with this song, not to end it immediately, but to let me keep listening.

Maybe it's just a little moment of remembrance:

That we never really arrive until we're ready to take the next step.

Because some songs let you arrive where words are not enough.

And because some people sail on with us - across every sea.
